The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter SHARAD detected a large amount of icy ice inside these craters!

Most likely, snow and ice accumulated on higher elevations of the terrain.

Then the snow substance flowed down into the craters.

Now the ice is inside the craters and covered with dust which protects it from evaporation.
